Teach on: Hot topics and practical strategies for today’s classroom 

A free webinar series for educators based on a survey of pressing professional development needs 

Topics for this free series were based on a survey of nearly 700 teachers, administrators, and other education professionals in May 2022 that asked what professional development topics were most desired in the current educational environment. 

Each 90-minute session will be held via Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided upon registration. The webinars will be interactive and engaging and feature both faculty experts and current teachers and other education professionals. Follow-up resources will be provided. 

Build the Teacher Pipeline Initiative

This webinar series is part of the Saint Rose Build the Teacher Pipeline Initiative, which aims to address the nationwide teacher shortage by growing the number of new teachers and supporting current teachers and other education professionals in their work.

EARN CTLE CREDITS!

Educators can receive 1.5 hours of CTLE credit for each session attended. College students majoring in education can earn a badge for completing all webinars in the series, which they can note on their resumes.

Language Foundations for Literacy

November 30 | 3:30 – 5 p.m. via Zoom 

In this panel presentation, five speech-language pathologists with expertise in language and literacy will discuss the five domains of language and how they provide a foundation for literacy learning. Panelists will provide practical strategies that foster students’ access to the academic curriculum. This discussion will highlight the reciprocal relationship between spoken language and reading and writing. Considerations for multilingual learners will be presented.

Katelynn Carroll is a speech-language pathologist and Visiting Instructor at The College of Saint Rose, where she teaches courses in phonetics, speech sound disorders, language and literacy, and counseling. Katelynn provides clinical supervision to graduate students, providing speech-language services to school-age children. Katelynn’s experience as a school-based SLP influenced her teaching and clinical philosophies.

Dana Ardovini, M.S., CCC-SLP

Dana Ardovini, M.S., CCC-SLP
Dana Ardovini is a Graduate Clinical Supervisor at The College of Saint Rose who teaches undergraduate courses within the CSD Department. Dana provides treatment for child and adult clients, primarily specializing in pediatric speech and language disabilities and sensory-based feeding needs. Dana draws upon prior experience as a preschool-based SLP during supervision and clinical decision-making.

SallyAnn Giess, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

SallyAnn Giess, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Dr. Giess is a speech-language pathologist and an assistant professor with the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at The College of Saint Rose. Dr. Giess earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Florida, where she studied diagnosis and intervention for dyslexia. Her teaching background covers all higher education levels, from associate degree programs to undergraduate and graduate programs and clinical education. Dr. Giess also has a strong interest in interprofessional practice and education. As a practitioner, she has worked with school-age children in private and public school settings, focusing on spoken and written language disorders. 

Grace Paster '98

Grace Paster, M.A., CCC-SLP
Grace Paster is a speech-language pathologist, Coordinator of the Winkler Center at The College of Saint Rose, and a clinical supervisor. She has a school-based SLP background focusing on children with spoken and written language disorders. She can evaluate and treat individuals with language-based learning challenges at the Winkler Center, including dyslexia.

Melissa Spring, M.S. CCC-SLP

Melissa Spring, M.S. CCC-SLP
Melisa Spring is a speech-language pathologist and the Director of Clinical Services at the College of Saint Rose.  Melissa has worked in a public school setting, rehab hospital, private practice, and higher education.  She specializes in language-based learning disabilities, dyslexia, hearing loss, and executive function.
